Starting Salary:  $8/hr

Responsibilities & Benefits
As a Peer Career Educator you will gain transferable skills in peer
leadership, customer service, project management and employer relations, that
will help launch your career after college. You will work closely with a team
to support counseling staff and to assist students, parents and employers who
visit the Resource Room. Teamwork, strong interpersonal skills and the desire
to help others are a must. You will be trained to provide career development
services to your peers. Additionally, you will receive ongoing professional
development that will assist you in your own career planning.

Duties (approximately 5-6 hours/week)
•	Greet and assist visitors to the Resource Room
•	Meet individually with students to provide resume and cover letter
assistance
•	Promote and help visitors navigate printed and online resources
•	Manage book check out process
•	Maintain organization of the Resource Room and its materials
•	Create and present outreach programs (i.e. Peer to Peer) to various
campus groups
•	Plan, develop and manage innovative career projects (Innovator of Thought
Initiative)
•	Contribute thought provoking topics/ideas to social networking sites to
reach a national audience
•	Serve as an ambassador of the University Career Center & The
President’s Promise with employers, students, faculty, parents and visitors
at events throughout the year
•	Attend weekly Peer Career Educator team meetings
•	Escort employers, register students and assist staff at Career Fairs and
other events throughout the year
•	Assist University Career Center & The President’s Promise staff as
requested

•	Strong commitment to the position and the work hours
•	Strong interpersonal skills
•	Desire to help peers and demonstrated experience working with students
•	Experience working with diverse populations
•	Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
•	Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•	Familiarity with University Career Center & The President’s Promise
resources and services
•	Preference for applicants who have participated in one or more of The
President’s Promise experiences (see presidentspromise.umd.edu for more
information)
•	Availability to work during fall and spring semesters
•	Freshmen and sophomore students are strongly encouraged to apply
