Subject: Immediate job openings for qualified candidates in Biology, Biochemistry and/or Bioinformatics Description: PointCross Life Sciences (www.pointcrosslifesciences.com) has immediate openings in our Silver Spring, MD office for entry level nonclinical scientists with exposure to informatics, or a similar subject matter expert, to support the needs of a nonclinical data standardization program with a US Federal Government Agency and our other Biopharma clients. PointCross is a multinational company, headquartered in the Bay Area, that provides regulatory review, analytics and Big Data solutions and services to global Biopharma companies and Government Agencies. This position will require scientific involvement in large-scale nonclinical data digitization of PDF/paper reports and non-standardized electronic datasets. The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team in Silver Spring, Maryland to triage toxicology study reports and datasets, extract data using OCR technology, use a range of Excel and other tools for data extraction and identification/resolution of data discrepancies, interact with diverse subject matter and data digitization experts, review and improve data extraction and data validation processes, and conduct acceptance reviews of delivered end products. Interaction with other PointCross staff located in other global locations may be required. Collaboration with client staff, on occasion, may be required to elicit, understand and communicate the business needs of study data reviewers. This position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in life sciences, preferably in informatics, biology, biochemistry, toxicology or related disciplines in drug discovery and development. Alternately, substantial hands-on experience with nonclinical studies, particularly on the informatics and data management fronts will be considered. We expect the right candidate to have the following skills: A strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel including data management tasks, use of common mathematical and logical functions, and the use and design of macros. Proficiency with the Microsoft Windows operating environment and software programs Outlook, Explorer, Word, Adobe, Internet Explorer, OneNote and Notepad – and file management functions. Self-starter with the ability to work well both in a team as well as individually Focused and well organized with a strong attention to detail for extended periods of time Good communication and listening skills, with a strong interest in professional growth Basic knowledge of anatomy, histopathology, gross pathology, toxicology, and statistics Other desirable skills include: Familiarity with preclinical and clinical studies Experience with preclinical data collection systems & practices Experience with optical character recognition (OCR) software Experience with statistical analysis tools like SAS and R Exposure to industry data standards (e.g., CDISC data standards) and terminologies (e.g., NCI Metathesaurus, SNOMED, MedDRA) is a big plus.
