Description: Chemical engineers with advanced degrees provide key competencies throughout Eastman’s Technology and Engineering organizations. While Ph.D. chemical engineers serve in a variety of roles – from process flow sheet development to generating and analyzing lab and pilot plant data to mathematical modeling to process optimization, common job responsibilities may include: • Lead and execute process development projects using modeling and experimental techniques. • Involvement in process modeling to determine important design, economic, and scale-up aspects. • Participate on multi-disciplinary process/product research and development teams, using simulation and economic analysis tools to help guide the development of new processes and the improvement of existing processes. • Collaborate with chemists, technicians/technologists, and other chemical engineers in experimental programs to investigate unknowns such as phase equilibria, kinetics, and physical properties and to test process concepts. • Follow relevant literature and interact with appropriate external research organizations and vendors to continue to expand capability and knowledge in key areas of chemical engineering operations. • Provide plant support and consultation, primarily through the development and use of models to provide insights for and/or improve the yields and operating costs of existing manufacturing processes. • Improve process operation through application of advanced control and optimization algorithms. • Focus on innovation and invention, commonly involving collaboration with experts in academia and national laboratories. • Effectively communicate ideas and data with other Eastman groups. • Document research findings in technical reports.
