Subject: Biological Scientist Technician Position in Florida Description: Biological Scientist #980543 Posting Date: 12/01/2014 This position is located in Fort Pierce, FL, FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Position Summary: Participate in the Indian River Lagoon Observatory research project and other projects as assigned. Minimum Requirements: A minimum of BA/BS degree in biology or related discipline. Experience in some, or preferably all, of the following preferred: (1) scientific principles and field techniques involved with sampling physical, chemical and biological parameters in coastal environments, especially in relation to water quality and marine plants; (2) working with basic computer software, statistical software, and geographic information systems for data analysis; (3) trailering, driving, and working from small boats; (4) working in the field in various types of weather; (5) lifting heavy equipment (50 lbs); (6) troubleshooting with technical equipment. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and managers. May require some weekend and/or evening work in addition to regular work hours. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain within 30 days and an acceptable driving record. Job Duties: Perform calibrations, maintenance, and deployments of water quality instrumentation. Perform concurrent discrete sampling, which will include preparation of sample containers and standard laboratory analysis of samples. Conduct computer data entry and analysis of data. Conduct seagrass sampling and algal monitoring at regular intervals, including preparation/organization, sample processing, and data entry. Maintain an accurate instrument inventory and timely ordering of supplies. Work days and hours: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm. Work hours may require some weekend and/or evening work.
