Two postdoctoral positions are currently available in the Process Systems Engineering
Laboratory at MIT.

Position 1: This project involves the development of numerical methods and codes for
computing generalized derivatives of the solutions of ordinary differential equations (ODEs)
and differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) with nonsmooth right-hand sides. This is based on
very recent theoretical developments in this area. The successful candidate will join the
Novartis-MIT Center for Continuous Manufacturing working as part of a team focusing on
novel campaign continuous operating strategies for pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in computational science and engineering with expertise in
numerical methods for ODEs, DAEs and sensitivity analysis.

Position 2: The successful candidate will join the Novartis-MIT Center for Continuous
Manufacturing working on software, theory and numerical methods for parameter estimation
in dynamic systems using global optimization, and reachability analysis for dynamic systems.
The project is sponsored by a major international corporation and the candidate's
responsibilities will include frequent interaction with and reporting to the sponsor, including
deployment of software to the sponsor.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or computational science and
engineering with expertise in the areas mentioned above; in particular, experience with
complex numerical software is desired.

Interested applicants should send a detailed curriculum vitae and a list of at least three
referees to:
