Subject: Seasonal Job Announcement: Biological Science Technician Description: USDA-ARS Invasive Insect Biocontrol and Behavior Laboratory: Our research focus is insect ecology with a commitment to improvement of pest management. Our work involves the evaluation of environmentally-friendly tactics such as native biological controls, deployment of aggregation pheromones, and changes in cultural practices, emphasizing solutions for small farms and gardens in urban agriculture. Position Summary: Seasonal Biological Science Technicians are needed to assist with lab and field research on vegetable insect pests and their natural enemies, including experimental plot set-up, data collection and processing, stink bug and parasitoid experiments, insect colony maintenance, and laboratory maintenance. Technicians will participate in both field and laboratory experiments including: stink bug aggregation pheromone bioassays, sentinel egg deployment for detection of natural enemies, and other experiments. Required Qualifications: Valid driver’s license; physically able to handle strenuous field work in the summer; experience assisting with agricultural field research is strongly desired. Must be US citizen. Pay Range: GS grades 1 through 5, ($10.97 to 16.90 per hour) with no benefits. Pay commensurate with experience.
