Subject: Graduate Hourly Position for Veterans STEM Assistance Program Description: POSITION DESCRIPTION Graduate Hourly Position for Veterans STEM Assistance Program The Adele H. Stamp Student Union--Center for Campus Life University of Maryland College Park The Graduate Program Assistant for Veterans STEM Assistance Program will work with the Veteran Student Life team to coordinate the tutoring program designed especially for U.S. military and Veteran students seeking assistance in STEM classes. Responsibilities • Assist with recruitment of STEM tutors to begin the last week of August • Create and manage online scheduling tool to keep an organized calendar of all tutoring appointments. • Produce online publications that advertise openings in tutoring schedule • Use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to promote tutoring sessions • Attend all trainings for tutors conducted by Learning Assistance Service and Veteran Student Life • Write and compile assessment of service and satisfaction • Assist tutors with the creation of customized study plans for each student veteran • Assist Veteran Student Life with the coordination of a Lunch and Learn series of workshops to focus on general topics such as test anxiety, time management, and study skills • Manage online space reservations for tutoring sessions and “on time” communication of tutoring services to students Qualifications: Must have a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled full time in a graduate degree program at the University of Maryland College Park. Experience in using social media for marketing a program is preferred. Knowledge of scheduling systems preferred. Previous experience as a tutor preferred. Must be detail oriented, with excellent written and oral communication skills. Other required qualifications include strong time management skills, problem solving skills, and a genuine interest in serving Veteran students. Terms of Appointment: This is a 10-month position that begins August 1, 2016, and ends May 30, 2017, with an opportunity for reappointment. This position entails 10 hours of work per week. (Please note that exact appointment dates are flexible and can be discussed upon hire.) Compensation: This position is an hourly graduate appointment.
