Subject: Part-time paid student position available at USDA-ARS Beltsville Description: Part-time paid student position available at USDA-ARS Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Genetic Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables Lab: US citizenship is required. SSR is required for males born after 12/31/1959. The lab studies strawberry development, biochemistry and genetics. The position entails care and maintenance of plants in the greenhouse and tissue culture. Greenhouse work includes mixing soil, planting, transplanting, trimming and watering plants, observing for plant pests and disease, scoring plants for phenotype, harvesting seed, and will include cleaning chores. Tissue culture requires sterile technique and media preparation for experiments involving plant transformation. Employee must be willing to commit to 8-12 hours per week during the semester with some of those hours committed to morning watering several times per week. Hours can be flexibly adjusted to accommodate a full-time student’s schedule. Given available funding, the successful employee will be able to continue working through the summer at 30-40 hours per week. Employee should have their own transportation to and from the University. Parking is free at Beltsville. Preference will be given to someone with intentions to continue with the lab through senior year. Position will start once fingerprinting and background checks have been cleared.
