A post-doctoral research position is available at The University of Texas at Austin in the general area of process performance monitoring. Specific topics of interest include quantifying plant-model mismatch in model predictive control, and using large-scale data sets to evaluate plant-wide performance. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Profs. Michael Baldea and Thomas F. Edgar.

 

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a strong publication record demonstrating proficiency in one or more of the following areas: systems and control theory, optimization, data analysis and numerical methods. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential. This project is industry-sponsored and will require frequent interactions with industry researchers, as well as a focus on industrial implementation of the results.

 

The position is available immediately. An initial appointment will be made for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and the availability of funding.
