Hello all, Karen Falk, archivist for the Jim Henson Company, will be here next week doing a couple of (free!) shows of materials from her archives. Both of these will effectively be the same show, so don't worry about trying to make it to both (personally, I can only do Thursday). Please see below for more information. This is a great opportunity to learn more about corporate archives, UMD's most beloved graduate, and / or Muppets. The Wednesday night show will specifically be in the library of The Clarice. Dear Henson Friends at UMD: It’s been great connecting with you all this year, and I am really looking forward to seeing you and your students at one of the two Jim Henson Legacy screenings scheduled for next week: Jim Henson’s Commercials and Experiments Wednesday, May 2nd, 5:00PM – Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts Thursday, May 3rd, 8:00PM – The Old Greenbelt Theatre. It should be a fun program – all the effort to organize these on the part of Sammy, Vin and Oliver (among others) is much appreciated. Other fun Henson/UMD things to report include a visit by Harold Burgess and his honors students to the Jim Henson Exhibition here in NY; my colleague (whom you met) Susie Tofte spent some time with the group and was impressed by their enthusiasm and engagement. Leigh Wilson Smiley visited us here to discuss the puppet work in the theater department with the Jim Henson Foundation. And, of course, Brian Real and JD Hansel hosted Henson biographer Brian Jay Jones last night for a program in the film studies department.
