In the Department of Chemical Engineering at NTNU there is an PhD position in the field of “Optimal operation and control of energy storage systems”.

 

The main objective for the PhD work is to develop optimal operation and control strategies for large-scale thermal energy storage (TES) concepts. The aim is to balance the mismatch between availability and demand for thermal and electric energy.  The focus will be on compact high-capacity storage of high-temperature energy, for example, using steam or phase-change materials. Applications can be towards thermal power production, improved utilization of renewable energy in steam production, metal industry and industrial clusters.

 

Requirements:

1.      The successful candidate should have a background in process systems engineering.

2.      Good written and oral English language skills 

 

The position is financed by the HighEFF-Centre at SINTEF and NTNU for “Energy Efficient and Competitive Industry for the Future”. The HighEFF-Centre will operate from 2016 to 2024 and the goal is to increase the energy efficiency and surplus heat utilization, to help ensure that Norway has the world's greenest industries. In addition to belonging to the large HighEFF center, the PhD student will be integrated in the Process Systems Engineering Group at NTNU, which has about 30 Faculty, PhD students and Master students.

 

PhD candidate salary is normally NOK 449400 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

 

The period of employment is 3 years with the possibility of until one year extension with 25% teaching duties.
