HJF is seeking a Research Assistant needed to support the laboratory of Dr. Geeta Upadhyay within the Pathology Department located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the Pathology Department. The incumbent will be responsible for performing molecular biology experiments including data analysis and animal experimentations to execute a R01 National Cancer Institute funded project, which is focused on developing novel immunotherapies for patients suffering with triple negative breast cancer. About USUHS: The mission of the USUHS is to educate, train, and comprehensively prepare uniformed services health professionals, scientists, and leaders to support the Military and Public Health Systems, the National Security and National Defense Strategies of the United States, and the readiness of our Uniformed Services. Dr. Upadhyay received her training at Harvard, NCI, UTHSCSA, Georgetown University. Her research is focused on biomarker discover, drug development and drug resistance in breast cancer. Makes detailed observations about experiments. Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks. Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard molecular biology laboratory techniques; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication and analytical skills. Practical experience of mouse handling, western blotting, qRT PCR, cloning, bioinformatics analysis Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline Minimum Experience: 0 to 2 years’ experience Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals Work Environment: Laboratory environment Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
