Subject: Now Hiring Medical Scribes at Frederick Memorial Hospital Description: " My name is Patty Powers, Chief Medical Scribe for ScribeAmerica. I am starting the hiring process for Scribes at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD. There are multiple shifts available, all lasting 8-10 hours. There is one scribe and one physician for the entirety of each shift. A significant time commitment is required. We ask for a minimum of two shifts per week for two years or four shifts per week for one year. Each week all employees must work a minimum of one weekday (Monday-Thursday) and must be willing to work two overnight shifts per month. To be a scribe you will need to to have a proactive work-ethic. The fast-paced work environment requires quick-learning and adaptability. In addition this ER uses a computer-based charting system so computer skills are crucial. The process of becoming a scribe requires extensive training. Before live training in the healthcare setting can begin there are multiple classroom trainings that must be completed. The pre-clinical classroom training is a crash-course in medicine. Classroom material includes the flow of the department, vast medical terminology, and appropriate medical/legal documentation. The subsequent clinical training in the department will be working directly with an physician and trainer. Both clinical and classroom trainings are paid, though in order to succeed as a scribe many hours of independent study will be required. This is a great opportunity to gain clinical experience for medical school. You will also make crucial connections with the doctors, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who work here and they will be happy to recommend you to professional school when you apply.
