Two research opportunities are currently available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Research and Development (ORD), located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The mentor, Dr. Gerardo Ruiz-Mercado, collaborates within a team of researchers. The contact information for Dr. Ruiz-Mercado, who should be contacted for more information, is provided below.

ORISE internship opportunities:

Please find in the link below a Ph.D. student internship opportunity to work with us during this summer (~3 months):

Participants will conduct research in recycling, recovery, and disposal options for chemicals under interest. Hence, this is an exciting opportunity for the participant to learn and contribute to the design of pathways and technologies to transform the traditional linear production paradigm (raw material extraction, manufacturing, usage, and disposal) into a circular economy structure. Also, participants will conduct some data-reconciliation and learning-from-data using publicly available databases to track chemical substances at the end-of-life stage.

Also, here is another exciting Ph.D. student internship opportunity to work with us during this year (6 to 12 months):

Students will perform some research on developing efficient anthropogenic nutrient pollution management and prevention efforts for reducing the contamination of freshwater and marine water-bodies. Also, the research participants will be studying and acquiring training experience in diverse topics that include geographic information system datasets, nutrient pollution, management, recovery, and legacy, watershed and waterbody management, bioenergy generation, life cycle nutrient assessment, performance indicators, among others.

Please share these exciting opportunities with your Ph.D. students and colleagues. Note that EPA recently changed requirements for these research opportunities. Therefore, all programs are restricted to U.S. Citizens.

Latinx and other underrepresented minority groups are encouraged to apply.

Please contact me with any questions.

Best regards,

Gerardo
