Subject: Queer in the Workplace Description: Do you have questions about the safest ways to come out at work? Are you wondering how to express your gender at work while still adhering to workplace requirements? Do you want to hear stories and advice from queer/trans professionals? Are you concerned about how the intersections of transphobia and racism will impact you at work? Come to our "Queer in the Workplace" event to have a conversation about coming out/ gender expression/ queer presentation/ dress code in the workplace with various LGBTQ+ professionals. While we want our students to be their full authentic selves in the workplace, we recognize that this is a privilege that many of us do not have. Therefore, we are creating a space for our students to talk through ways to navigate workplace etiquette and requirements in a way that prioritizes the students' needs and wellbeing. The event will pay particular attention to how queer and trans identities intersect with race as we navigate different kinds of workplaces (from corporate sectors to nonprofits to graduate schools). Since there cannot be a set rule for everyone since we experience transphobia/homophobia/racism/xenophobia differently depending on how we are perceived in this world, this event will be an open discussion rather than a prescriptive lecture. Our goal is to empower our students to make the best decisions for themselves about the kind of place they want to work at, and how they want to present at work. The event will begin with a panel discussion between Kameron Fields, Mai Tran, Max Balagtas-Badoy and Madeleine Moore, and will be followed by an informal discussion about being queer in the workplace.
