We have just finalised a Special Issue of Chemical Engineering Science on Digitalisation which you might find interesting (I am Chem Eng Science Executive Editor with responsibility for PSE). You can find it under Article Collections on the Chem Eng Sci website at https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/chemical-engineering-science/special-issues . The Digitalisation Special Issue has four reviews (including Machine Learning), 13 technical papers on data driven methods, artificial intelligence, and optimization based methods and the paper based on the Danckwerts lecture by Massimo Morbidelli on digitalisation of the manufacture of therapeutic proteins. I expect you all have library access but, just in case, below is a free access link to the editorial article which gives a very brief overview (also attached).
