Subject: Clinical Volunteer Opportunity to be a Patient Counselor:

Our program–Peace and Contentment–aims to alleviate loneliness and
isolation among underserved and vulnerable populations. We hope to bring
older adults and their families comfort and companionship that promotes hope
and healing. We connect UMD students with homebound geriatric patients in
D.C. via Zoom. There will also be in-person opportunities available. All
volunteers will train under the “HEALTHY Ideas” program to recognize
symptoms of depression and to help patients learn to self-manage their
symptoms. Every week, volunteers and patients will meet online for at least
30 minutes to engage in conversation, build connections, and become a source
of camaraderie–offering a space of reprieve and relief from the emotional
demands of isolation your senior patients may be experiencing.
